Recently there was a shortage for the vaccin in the Netherlands. Is immunoglobin and the vaccine easy to get in clinics on the Islands in the Andamansea or do you have to go to the mailland? We have planned islandhopping for 4 or 5 weeks, the rest is on the mainland.
You will find it difficult to find Rabies immunoglobulin in the islands in the Andaman sea especially the small/remote islands. People usually need to go to the main land or Phuket to get it.
Hello, we are traveling next time from Bangkok by train to Chumphon, with our 4 year old son. Unfortunately we are not vaccinated against rabies. If, hopefully not, the case arises of being bitten, would it be wiser to travel the 7 hours to Bangkok or is there a clinic closer (maybe Hua Hin 4h). That they have the vaccine and the immunoglobin in stock? Thank you for the information. Best regards Sara
Rabies vaccine is available in all provincial hospitals in Thailand. You should be able to find it in Chumphon.
In late November 2019 I was bitten on the back of the leg by a dog with unknown vaccination history in a tribal village. The wound was washed immediately and within an hour I was being treated at a hospital in Chiang Rai. There I received 6 or so equine immunoglobulin shots around the wound plus two more in the buttocks plus a vaccine shot in the arm. This was followed at intervals by 4 rabies vaccine shots. On May 31, 2020 I was nipped in the lip by my small 16 year old blind dog whose last rabies vaccination was on May 3 2019. He receives shots annually and does not run loose outside the compound. The small lip wound which drew some blood was washed thoroughly and betadine applied. With this history are more shots required for me.I have been under the impression that the above vaccine scenario would afford protection for some years. Appreciate your advice.
You should see a doctor for formal evaluation. If it is a new exposure, normally a doctor will consider to give a booster rabies vaccine.
